LIDS On The Air

Recent years have seen a surge in popularity and activity of various ‘On The Air’ types of awards. The largest being the Islands On The Air (IOTA) award, but there is also the Summits On The Air (SOTA) and the Wainrights On The Air (WOTA) as well as several others.

The Lost Island DX Society is not above hopping on an already crowded bandwagon, so with great pride we announce the LIDS On The Air (LOTA) award. This award should be relatively easy to qualify for since LIDS can be readily found in just about every DX pileup and most contests. But don’t discount finding LIDS on the air during casual operations. To qualify for the LOTA award, work 100 or more LIDS. An SWL version of the LOTA award is also available with the same requirement to copy 100 or more LIDS. To qualify, send in a listing of the LIDS worked/heard and you will receive an impressive Certificate of Radio Achievement and Participation (CRAP). So if you would like to receive a LOTA CRAP, send your LIDS list to the Lost Island DX Society DX Society World Headquarters and we will be happy to comply.

  4. This is going to need some structure and rules. First, we'll need an Official LID List, so we are clear on what contacts qualify. We can't have people just deciding that on their own. I'd also suggest we have a complex scoring system that rates the degree of LIDness for each station worksd. Not all LIDs are created equal, you know. Some LIDs really, really excel at it and need to be recognized.

  5. Can this award be endorsed like DXCC? A LOTA CRAP is nice but I'm guessing a pile of CRAP even better.

  6. I know I (and probably many of you out there) could qualify for the LOTA yl/xyl CRAP.

  7. Bob, K0NR, now there you go wanting to add organization to a group that is the antithesis of organization. Organization is a baby-step to bureaucracy, which is just a mother-may-I step to government. And we know where that leads...

AJ9C, unlike DXCC, there is no cap on the number of LIDS you can work and get endorsements. Lost Island is where we go to hide out from the yl/xyls. Come join us.

  8. There will always be lid if were in charge of the FCC, I'd be pulling licenses big time. (remember Howard Stern) Then if they don't stop operating. I'd contact the Department of Commerce (fancy name for the DEA) and have them use one of their Satellite jammers to fry that person equipment. Pretty soon, they'd catch on.

  11. Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit! Great minds think alike. Imitation is the sincerest form of plagiarism, or something like that. We never claimed the Lost Island DX Society was limited to one continent. I'm sure there are plenty of LIDS ova' yonder 'cross the pond. While our DL brethren have a mighty nice looking LOTA award, you can only get a LOTA CRAP from from the Lost Island DX Society. If you feel you're missing out, just let us know and we'll be happy to send some more your way. Thanks for the link!
